Victory of the Conquest-BA

Santa Helena Farm

Mr. Luiz Benício Santos Torres, was working at Banco do Brasil in the 70's when he started the implementation of coffee in Planalto da Conquista, in Bahia. As a fiscal he began to admire and believe in the coffee culture, leading him to start his activities in coffee cultivation in September 1975 at Fazenda Santa Helena.

His family is all from the region, raised practically in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia. The Santa Helena Farm is located in the municipality of Itambé, on the Conquista Plateau in Bahia, at 930 meters, the Catuaí coffee variety is planted and grows with the rains of the region, not requiring any irrigation.

The coffees of Fazenda Santa Helena are awarded: Bahian champion of the 1st Coffee Quality Contest of Bahia and is among the best coffees in the ABIC Contest of 2015. It participates in the annual competitions of the state of Bahia, ILLY and BSCA, in which it always achieves high marks, ranking among the best coffees.

Mr. Luiz Benício is one of the coffee producers who makes the best "Despulpados Fully-Washed of Bahia", in Brazil and in the World. It follows your harvest closely and it is done selectively and manually, is pulped on the same day of harvest and fermentation is done in degumming troughs for up to 36 hours. The coffee is dried in ground terraces beaten in the caatinga, called "Natural Dryers". For this reason, Fazenda Santa Helena is a producer of the best coffees in Bahia, Brazil and the world.

Best coffees in Bahia, Brazil and the World

There are three consolidated coffee producing regions in Bahia: Planalto, the most traditional producer of Arabica coffee; the Western Region, also a producer of Arabica coffee, being a Cerrado region with irrigation and the Litorânea, with predominant plantations of Robusta coffee (Conilon).

The Arabica coffee produced in the West Region of Bahia is recognized for its pleasant flavor, with good fragrance and a slightly fruity and floral aroma, with excellent sweetness and good acidity. This is produced under conditions of average temperatures that vary between 22 and 26 ºC, with no risk of frost or interruptions in the development of the coffee plantation during the year due to the little variation in temperature. The average rainfall of about 1,600 mm is distributed between the months of October and April.

In the dry period, the compensation occurs through irrigation, which has a great availability of underground or surface water, from one of the largest aquifers in Brazil, the Urucuia. This dry period generates a great contribution to the harvest and post-harvest operations, as there is no rain. With approximately 3,000 hours of light per year and average altitudes of 800 meters, these are favorable conditions for the good development of Arabica coffee.
