Minas Gerais

Marked by the predominance of family farmers, the Zona da Mata or Matas de Minas region proves that agriculture taken seriously can bring about great changes and improvements to a region. For a time, this area was seen as limited and incapable of producing high quality coffee.

This reality was reversed with the creation of coffee quality contests created in the region, which had the technical support of EMATER/MG (Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Minas Gerais), which is located in the city of Manhuaçu. There was intense work to help the local population become professional and improve coffee cultivation and preparation techniques. The Minas Gerais Coffee Quality Contest was even created, promoted by the entity. After a few years of hard work and a lot of learning, the production of coffee growers from Zona da Mata consolidated its position in the high quality level of the best Brazilian coffees. The region went further and became one of the first to focus on the production of socially fair and environmentally correct coffees.

The incidence of light, selective harvesting of ripe beans, the use of treated water in washing and in the cherry peeler, good management of drying in the yard and resting the coffee in parchment, are factors that led to the production of high quality beverages. with nuances of aroma and rich flavors.

Most cultivated coffee varieties: Catuaí (80%) and Mundo Novo
